1 Maccabees 10:78-80

⁷⁸ Jonathan pursued him to Azotus, and their armies engaged in battle. ⁷⁹ Apollonius had secretly left one thousand cavalry to the rear. ⁸⁰ Jonathan found out that there was an ambush behind him. They surrounded his army and shot arrows at his soldiers from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.
